Improving Food Loss and Waste Reduction Interventions to Promote Food Security in Indonesia

Reducing food loss and waste (FLW) is an important strategy for improving food security while reducing the environmental and economic costs. However, the effectiveness of FLW reduction efforts depends on the interventions implemented, policy and institutional support, and the behaviour of food supply chain actors. This study aims to strengthen FLW reduction efforts and their contribution to food security, with a focus on Indonesia. It will combine a systematic literature review of FLW reduction interventions, analysis of policies and programmes, quantitative and qualitative research with food supply chain actors, and strategy development. The study is expected to provide evidence on effective and context-specific FLW reduction interventions, identify policy gaps, improve understanding of factors influencing FLW reduction behaviour, and inform strategies to strengthen FLW reduction and food security.
